The blue economy, ''the future of Africa''

AU-IBAR, through Dr Patrick Karani gave a keynote address on the “Place and role of the blue economy in Africa: The strategy and paradigm shift of the ocean, seas, lakes and rivers economy in Africa.” The keynote address was presented at the Second Fisheries and Aquaculture Research for a vibrant Blue Economy (FAR4ViBE) Conference. The conference was held in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania from 12-14 July 2022.

The conference was convened by the Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI), in collaboration with the Zanzibar Fisheries and Marine Resources Research Institute (ZAFIRI) and the School of Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Technology (SoAF) of the University of Dar es Salaam.

The overarching goal of the conference was to interrogate “the Contribution of Fisheries and Aquaculture Research in building an inclusive Blue Economy in the West Indian Ocean Region”
