Workshop on the Inauguration of the National Livestock Policy Hub and Launching of the Pilot Activity in Tunisia

Prof. El Sawalhy and the Minister for Agriculture signing the agreement.In collaboration with the AU-IBAR, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tunisia inaugurated the National Livestock Policy Hub and launched the Pilot Activity Programme in Tunisia from 28th – 30th January 2014, at Regency Tunis Hotel. The inauguration and launching workshop was officially opened by Eng. Abdel Saied, the chef de cabinet (Executive Assistant to the Minister) in the Ministry of Agriculture and Dr. Hichem BOUZGHAIA, the Director of Veterinary Services of Tunisia, on behalf of the Minister for Agriculture. The Director and Head of Mission of AU-IBAR, Professor Ahmed Elsawalhy addressed the opening session and participated at the workshop. Dr. Baba Soumare, Head of Animal Health Unit, AU-IBAR and Dr Osama Rajab, VET-GOV regional coordinator for UMA attended the inauguration and launching of the National Livestock policy Hub workshop.

Participants of the Inauguration of the National Policy Hub and Launching the Pilot Activity workshop in Tunisia.The inauguration workshop and the launching of the National Policy Hub meeting were also attended by the Tunisian National Livestock Policy Focal Point and the 35 members of the National Livestock Policy Hub, which included all stakeholders from public and private sectors. The Workshop objectives were to create awareness on the VET-GOV Programme, to review and validate and implement the action plan of the Tunisian livestock policy hub, to sign and lunch the Tunisian pilot activity which titled as (Development of official inspections of veterinary services in animal health and veterinary public health) and to develop a roadmap and formulate recommendations and the way forward for the programme implementation in Tunisia.
