Key Speakers
This high-level convening will feature prominent speakers who are at the forefront of Africa's health and development initiatives, including:
- H.E. Amb. Minata Cessouma Samaté, Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs & Social Development, African Union Commission (AUC)
- H.E. Dr. Jean Kaseya, Director General, Africa CDC
- Dr. Huyam Ahmed Mohammedelamin Salih, Director of the African Union Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR)

Background
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a rapidly escalating global threat with dire consequences for human health, animal welfare, environmental safety, and overall health security. It also poses significant economic challenges. In Africa, AMR presents a complex barrier to sustainable development, threatening progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the aspirations outlined in the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

Recognizing the critical importance of ensuring sustainable access to effective antimicrobials for human and animal health, the African Union, with leadership from its technical institutions Africa CDC and AU-IBAR, and in collaboration with partners such as the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) and the Fleming Fund, is launching this Landmark Report. The report will present well-defined, evidence-based proposals that align with Africa’s unique position and needs for containing AMR.

Participation
Media representatives are encouraged to follow the proceedings of this pivotal event either in person at the Africa CDC offices in Addis Ababa or through the digital platforms of Africa CDC, the African Union, and ASLM.

Language Accessibility
The event will be available in all African Union working languages through simultaneous interpretation, ensuring broad accessibility for all participants.
This convening marks a significant step towards addressing the AMR crisis in Africa and ensuring a sustainable future for health on the continent. Join us to witness and report on the shaping of Africa’s response to one of the most pressing health challenges of our time.
